As she works to navigate her new role and its attendant duties, she falls in love. Ōoku: The Inner Chambers follows Tokugawa Iemitsu, the illegitimate daughter of the last Shogun, as she ascends to his seat of power to rule in his stead. A deadly plague, known as redface pox, has decimated the male population. One where Ōoku, the women’s quarters of Edo Castle, now serve as the home for men who work in service to a woman Shogun. Ōoku: The Inner Chambers is an historical drama that takes place on an alternate timeline at the end of the Edo era in feudal Japan.
